Summer Vamp Reads

So with all this vampire mania going on, I thought I'd share with everyone some new books that I found that I'm SUPER excited about! Of course, PC Cast shared with us on her blog that *cue screams* Tempted is finished! She also shared, at a Toronto book signing, that Tempted will be from four points of view (POVs) - Zoey's, Stevie Rae's, and Aphrodite's, with one person that "you'd least expect."

I love a little mystery, but who is it? A few of us are of the consensus that we think it's pigeon boy, aka Kalona. Discuss here: Fourth Point of View in Tempted?

Now, beyond the House of Night series, there are a few books I just bought that I'm PSYCHED about getting (they're slated to be delivered to my office on Saturday, so I won't start reading them until next week because, let's face it, even if it is 7 minutes away, driving to the office on the weekend just feels wrong.

I'm currently in the middle of Vampire Diaries (Book 2; The Struggle), and no offense to L.J. Smith, but I'm having a really hard time getting into them. They're good, don't get me wrong, and I have to finish them before the CW series starts in the fall, but I'm just kind of meh, about them at the moment. Is it because I'm only a few chapters in to the second book?

I should mention I'm on a serious vamp kick lately, as is, uh, the world it seems (Twi-Con, anyone? Speaking of, I would like to give a shout out to my great state for hosting that. Whoever says Texans don't read and only care about horses and guns is...well, sorta right but at LEAST WE HAVE ENOUGH ROOM TO HOST A BUNCH OF TWILIGHT FANATICS (and I'd like to include myself in that fanatic category, because I would TOTALLY be there if I could be.)

Okay, back to books for y'all to read (reading makes you smart!):

Nice Girls Don't have Fangs, by Molly Harper - This one had me on the first page when I did the "look inside." Any author who can combine losing your job, an Irish pub, and making a fool of yourself during the middle of the day because you're drowning your sorrows in whatever cheap alcohol is nearby within 5 paragraphs is good quality writing in my opinion. This one is a series of three, with this being the first book. It follows a girl named Jane who loses her job as a children's librarian (girl has a M.A. peeps) thanks to a nepotistic head librarian who hires her pyromaniac step-daughter citing "budget costs," and later, with a broken down car, is accidentally shot by a deer hunter and left for dead. (where's Carlisle Cullen when you need him?!). Luckily (?) she's found by a hunky vampire named Gabriel (score!) who makes her undead.

Some Girls Bite: A Chicagoland Vampire Series, by Chloe Neill - This one is like, a hybrid between the Sookie Stackhouse books, the show Tru Blood (based on the Sookie Stackhouse books, but sexier I think), and House of Night (that's a stretch, I guess). Merit is a graduate student who gets attacked one night on campus by a vampire who gets scared off by vampire extraordinaire Ethan, who is the master of Cadagon House in Chicago. In this one, vamps have "come out" to humans, and humans are learning to deal with it, while vamps rule the Chicago nightlife (obviously). Merit soon finds that she has unbelievable powers, and that someone is out to get her.

Red-Headed Stepchild, by Jaye Wells - Three words. Female Vampire Assasin. How does it get any better than that? A girl kicking butt, yes please! Within three pages she's eaten a drug dealer and killed her latest target who tries to warn her that's a bad idea but in true fictitious fashion, she ignores the warning and her world is turned upside down.

The Morganville Vampires, by Rachel Caine - Truthfully, I saw Texas was involved (I <3>

Okay, so that's that for now! *cue site pimpage* If you want to discuss these books and others like it, as well as the House of Night series, head on over to www.houseofnight-boards.com and meet fans like you!
